Demadonna’s Margaret Chelimo cloaks 8'30''11 to take third in the women’s 3000 meters at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Birmingham

 

birminghamOur Kipkemboi Margaret Chelimo of Kenya’s takes third place in the women’s 3000 meters at IAAF Diamond League meeting in Birmingham on Sunday (20). She reached the finish line with a time of 8'30''11 in a race that provided perhaps the best quality performance of the meeting.

The race started with the leading pack followed the pacemaker during the early stages and passing 2000 meters in 5’41”83. With 200 meters left Obiri tried to kick, but her pursuers were poised behind her. Germany’s Konstanze Klosterhalfen had worked her way through the field and moved on to Obiri’s shoulder, but it was world indoor 1500m champion Sifan Hassan who had the best finish, kicking on to win in a Dutch record of 8’28”90.

Klosterhalfen finished second in a German record of 8’29”89, and Obiri eventually finished fourth in 8’30”21.
