Demadonna's Mary Keitany of Kenya fails to defend her title at the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon

keitany nycThree-time defending champion Mary Keitany of Kenya this time fails to defend her title at the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon, but was able to secure a precious sencond place crossing the line in 2h27'52".

The race was won by 36-year-old Shalane Flanagan, of USA. This was the first time in 40 years that an American woman has won the New York City Marathon. She crossed the line in 2h26'53".

The race started very slow early on with a lead pack of 15 women going through halfway in 1h16'18". At the 20th mile, nine women were still in the lead pack. By the time the 22nd mile was reached, only three women still remained in the race for victory: Flanagan, Keitany, and Ethiopia’s Mamitu Daska.

At the 23rd mile Flanagan opened up a leading gap, and from that point she never looked back. Shw would cross the line first in 2h26'53".

Our Keitany ended up second in 2h27'54" and Daska was third in 2h28'08".
