Demadonna's Ozbilen Kaan Kigen of Turky triumphant at SPAR European Cross Country Championships

 

ozbilenDemadonna's represented Kaan Kigen Ozbilen made it a Turkish day by taking the victory in the men's senior race at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships held in in Samorin, Slovakia on Sunday 10, crossinbg the line in 29’45’’.

Early in the race Ozbilen did not seem to be a favorite winner as Britain’s Dewi Griffiths created a considerable gap which put him clear of the field along with teammate Andy Butchart and Spain’s Adel Mechaal. However, on the penultimate lap, Mechaal surged clear at the front, but steadily making his way through the field over that lap was Ozbilen – best known as a road-racing specialist.

Ozbilen had found his way back to Mechaal’s shoulder as they set out on the final stages and quickly taking the lead throughout the finish line in 29'45", with Mechaal second in 29'54" and Butchart third in 30'00".

“It was a tough competition,” said Ozbilen. “The cold made the run much harder but I loved the course. I’m very happy I could reach for a gold medal as I’m back in shape and injury-free.”

In the men’s U23 race, DAP's and pre-race favourite Yemaneberhan Crippa of Italy, settled for bronze, crossing the finish line in 24’42’’. The race winner was France’s Jimmy Gressier in 24'35"
