Demadonna's Margaret Chelimo took top honours crossing the line in 19’55" to take victory at the Antrim International Cross Country on Saturday 6.


margaret antrimKenyan's Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi is the big winner of the women’s race at the 41st Antrim International Cross Country in Greenmount, the first IAAF Cross Country Permit meeting of 2018. She finished the race in 19’55", just one second ahead of Ethiopia’s Fotyen Tesfay runner up.

Kipkemboi was in the lead group throughout the 5.4km until she decided to move in front halfway through the final lap, and holding to the lead all the way to a tight finish.

“The race was good and tough, but I am happy for the win; this will be my last cross-country race in Europe. I have trials for Commonwealth Games next month”.

Always on Saturday 6, our Agnes Tirop had to settle for a runner up position at Campaccio, the IAAF Cross Country Permit meeting in San Giorgio su Legnano.

The race was decided in the final stages with Rengeruk and Tirop battling it out in the final sprint with 300 metres to go. Tirop took the lead in the back straight at the entrance of the Angelo Alberti athletics track but Rengeruk launched a kick to overtake her compatriot in the final straight, crossing the finish-line first in 19'02"just one second ahead of Tirop.
