Demadonna's Biruktayit Degefa of Ethiopia takes the women's title in Houston Marathon


degefa houstonEthiopia’s Biruktayit Eshetu Degefa took the honours in the women's race triumphing in 2h24'51"after a spirited battle with countrywoman Belaynesh Oljira, runner-up in 2h24'57" at the Chevron Houston Marathon, the IAAF bronze Label Road Race on Sunday 14.

It was Degefa’s fifth-consecutive appearance here at the Chevron Houston Marathon, a streak that included a win in 2016 and a second-place finish last year.

“When I come to Houston, I feel special joy, because I consider Houston my hometown,” said Degefa after the race. “I came here very prepared, and I knew that I would be winning today.” She concluded.


DAP's Jake Robertson, New Zealand and Guye Adola, Ethiopia take first and second in the men's half marathon

robertson houstonThe men's half marathon saw Robertson, who has lived and trained in Kenya since he was 17, pull away from Guye Adola just before 20 Kilometers. He kept the hammer down through the finish, trying to dip under the magic 60-minute mark before winning in 60'01", time that ties his personal best. Guye Adola held on for a second position in 60"15'.

“Wow … the best in the world,” he said afterward. “The whole caliber of the field, I’m speechless. It’s an amazing feeling.”
