Demadonna's Agnes Tirop of kenya prevails at the 36th Cross Internacional de Itálica in Santiponce - Seville

tirop sevilleKenya’s Agnes Tirop captured convincing victories in the women’s 8.265m race at the 36th Cross Internacional de Itálica in Santiponce, near the Spanish city of Seville, the fifth leg of this season’s IAAF Cross Country Permit series on Sunday 21.

The race started with the Portuguese duo Ines Monteiro and Sara Moreira leading the first group. With seven minutes on the clock, Bahrain’s Ruth Jebet took the lead. Barely two minutes later only the Kenyan trio of Agnes Tirop, Hellen Obiri and Lilian Rengeruk were close to her.

After the fifth kilometer, 2015 world cross-country champion Agnes Tirop injected a quicker rhythm which was followed only by Obiri while surprisingly Jebet gradually lost ground. Tirop continued to push hard on the closing lap. With a kilometre and a half left, She had already managed to get rid of Obiri.

At the tape, Tirop was a solid winner in 25’51’’, while Rengeruk managed to overtake a tired Obiri 20 metres before the tape, completing a Kenyan 1-2-3 finish.

“Today’s win makes me very satisfied after my second places in San Giorgio Su Legnano and Elgoibar earlier this month. After this European cross-country tour, I’ll now head back home to prepare the Commonwealth Games where I plan to contest the 5000m.” said Tirop.

Always on Sunday 21 our Bonsa Diba claimed second position at the Hong Kong Marathon crossing the line in 2h13’42’’. The race was won by Kenneth Mungara who reached the line in 2h13'39".
