DAP's Benson Kipruto of Kenya prevails at cold temperature and windy contitions to take victory at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Maratho

benson kipruto torontoWith temperatures almost reaching freezing stages and strong wind blowing from the northwest, Benson Kipruto of Kenya won the 19th edition of Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon in quick time 2h07'24"on Sunday 21.

Kipruto, surprised a strong field of fellow Kenyans and Ethipians staying on pace to better the course record all the way through two-thirds of the way. In the final stages of the race, he managed a successful late-race breakaway to win in 2h07'24".

“I tried to push, and when I pushed, I saw the guys were not there. I saw that I could win,” Kipruto said after the race. Augustino Sulle of Tanzania was second with a time of 2h07'45", while Kenya's Felix Kandie was third with a time of 2h08'29".

In the women's race Demadonna's represented Marta Negra of Ethiopia took the second position with a time of 2h22'34". The race was won in a new course record time of 2h22'26" by Bahrain’s Mimi Belete.
