DAP's Berhe Afera Godfay of Ethiopia breaks Mexican all-comers’ record at Guadalajara Half-Marathon on Sunday February 24.

godfay berha guadalajaraDemadonna's represented Afera Godfay Berha of Ethiopia broke the women’s Mexican all-comers half marathon record at the 33rd Electrolit Guadalajara Half Marathon, an IAAF Gold Label road race, on Sunday (24).

The 27 year old Ethiopian, completed the distance in a time of 1h08'52" breaking the previous all-comers mark of 1h09'07" set by Paula Radcliffe when winning the 2000 world half marathon title in Veracruz.

From the start of the race, Godfay and Kenyan Joyce Chemkemoi set an aggressive pace, reaching five kilometers mark in 15'58" with five seconds gap over Naomi Vaati who was running in third place.

By the 15th kilometes Berha made her decisive move and built a 35-second lead. She then cruised on to become the second Ethiopian woman to claim victory in Guadalajara.

Chemkemoi held on for second in 1h10'06" while Vaati, who clocked 1h10'17" had to settle for a third place.

Running in a very Tough weather conditions characterized by strond wind and only 3 degrees, our Angela Tanui of Kenya was the uncontested winner of the women's race cloaking 1h09'53" at the 6th edition of the Napoli City Half Marathon, confirming the pre-race predictions.

Second and third place on the podium was for Kenya again with Betty Wilson Lembus colaking 1h11'33"for second place and Martha Wanjiku Njorge third in 1h11'35".
