Demadonna's Shure Demise of Ethiopia claims third position at the Tokyo Marathon an IAAF Gold Label road race on Sunday 03

Likewise the men's race, the women’s race also started out very fast, reaching the first five kilometers in 16'34", and 15 kilometers in 49'25" with seven women still in contention: Ababel Yeshaneh, Ruti Aga, Florence Kiplagat, Helen Tola, our Shure Demisse, Yebrgual Melese and Bedatu Hirpa, passing the half-way point in 1h09'44".

Melese was dropped around 25 kilometers, leaving six women in the lead pack. Aga started to pull away after 35 kilometres and went on to win in 2h20'40".

Compatriot Tola finished second with a time of 2h21'01", while DAP's Shure Demisse completed a 1,2,3 Ethiopian podium in third place with a time of 2h21'05", just six seconds shy of her personal best of 2h20'59" set on her marathon debut.
