Demadonna's Yami Dera Dida of Ethiopia takes second at the IAAF/Mikkeller World Cross Country Championships Aarhus 2019 on Tuesday March 30

dera didaEthiopia's Trials winner Yami Dera Dida reached the finish line in a time of 36’16’’ to claim the second position at the Aarhus 2019 World Cross Country Championships. Dida finished just two seconds bihind Kenya's Hellen Obiri who reached the tape first in a time of 36'14".

The race took off with a group of five women breaking away at the end of the second lap, led by Obiri the marathon runner, Dera Dida, the world U20 steeplechase silver medallist, Peruth Chemutai, Beatrice Chepkoech, and Letesenbet Gidey. Chepkoech was the first to drop off and at the end of the third lap it was still Obiri, Ethiopian Trials winner Dida, Chemutai and Gidey remaining in contention.

With one lap left in the race, Obiri and the Ethiopian pair had broken away. On the final lap it was down to Obiri versus Dida. At the end the strength of the marathoner would prevail over over the speed of the 5000m specialist.
