DAP's Worknesh Degefa of Ethiopia made it a Dubai double with victory in the 2020 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon on Jenuary 25th.

 

worknesh degefaDegefa, winner in Dubai in 2017, produced the top performance of the day when reaching the finish line clocking a fast time of 2h19'38" after having led from start to finish.

Degefa passed the half way in 68'36" suggestig a new course record, but she slowed in the second parte of the race, remaining however well ahead of the field to finish in a magnificent sub-2:20 time for the third time in her career. She stopped the cloack in 2h19'38", followed by fellow Ethiopians Guteni Shone and Bedatu Hirpa took second and third in 2h20'11" and 2h21'55" respectively.

“I had a recurrence of a back pain a week ago and unfortunately it returned during the race,“ said the Degefa, who asked fot medical attention at the finish. “It’s true I wanted to run a much faster time but at least I’ve won the race despite the pain.“
