Sylvia Kibet sprints home to take victory at Bogota’s Carrera de la Mujer

 


Sylvia Kibet managed to edge out her Kenyan compatriot Paskalia Kipkoech after a thrilling sprint over the final kilometer to win the 2013 Carrera de la Mujer in Bogota, Colombia, on Sunday (29).

The race started at a moderate pace with just 3:25 for the first kilometer on a slightly cloudy day but a leading group soon started to establish itself.
Aware of Kibet’s sprinting talents, Kipkoech pushed hard and edged to the final kilometer in front, clearly trying to ware out of her compatriot for a final sprint, but with 300m to go Kibet took the lead for the first time in the race and it proved to be the decisive move. She would win a time of time of 42:11 same time given to Kipkoech second.
